Speaker 1:

Sounds ideal, right? Well, it's entirely possible by simply mastering the art of wardrobe editing. And today I'm going to talk to you about how editing your wardrobe can breathe new life into your existing collection and make it manageable to shop your own closet. So let's dive on in and get started. So first, let's define what wardrobe editing is. It's this. It's the process of decluttering your wardrobe, keeping only what fits, flatters and aligns with your personal and professional style needs. It involves assessing every piece you own, determining its value to your current lifestyle and making mindful decisions about what to keep, donate or discard. So now I'm going to go over the three reasons why you need to edit your wardrobe. Let's go. Number one streamlined decision making. As a corporate professional, our time is incredibly valuable, and having a well-edited wardrobe simplifies our morning routine, which will enable us to make quicker and more efficient decisions, because when our closet is organized and only contains items you love and frequently wear, you eliminate what should I wear and we've all been through the what should I wear or what do I have to wear dilemma and it not only saves you time, but it also reduces decision fatigue, which this will allow you to start your day with a clear mind and a focused energy, so we're not sitting around taking 50, 11 minutes trying to figure out what to wear, how to put it together. Everything in your closet automatically aligns with each other and everything in your closet should automatically go with everything.

Speaker 1:

Two consistent personal branding. Your wardrobe is a key component of your personal brand. Your wardrobe is a key component of your personal brand. I know we're tired of talking about personal branding, but style and personal branding go hand in hand, unfortunately. So consistency in your appearance helps reinforce your professional identity. So by editing your wardrobe, you ensure that every piece you own aligns with the image you want to project, that you get to develop and create, because it is the one thing out of everything that we do at work. It's the one thing that we can control With consistency. It will build trust and recognition among your colleagues and clients.

Speaker 1:

A cohesive wardrobe makes it easier to dress appropriately for various corporate settings, ensuring you always look polished and I hate that word, I don't know why I keep putting it in there and professional. So we always want to look our best, and having a consistent personal brand will help us with that. Last but not least, we get to enhance confidence and presence. How we dress and how we look has a huge impact on our confidence. I am discovering and learning this, so we're going to learn all this together. So, wearing clothes that fit well and reflect your style it boosts your confidence, and you've done this before your confidence, and you've done this before At some point.

Speaker 1:

I want you to think back about when you had on a, put on an outfit that made you feel good, that when you walked out of the house. You strutted out of the house. When you walked into a room, I don't care where you were going the club, a party, brunch, wherever you were going, even to the you knew you looked good and it boosted your confidence tenfold. It's the same thing with building and developing your corporate style. Confidence is probably the essential attribute in the corporate world, so influencing how others perceive you and how you perform. Because not only if you look good, you will actually perform better as well. It's scientifically proven. A well-edited wardrobe means that every outfit you choose will make you feel confident and comfortable, enhancing your overall appearance and effectiveness in the workplace, in the workplace. So keep in mind, if you want to look good and you need an extra boost of confidence for the day, if you're feeling sluggish, for whatever reason, your clothes will help you do that. So if you want to feel comfortable and not comfortable but confident go and find and you're not feeling confident that morning or you're sluggish put on an outfit that will help you boost that and see how your day starts to turn around.

Speaker 1:

So here are a few tips for editing your wardrobe you want to assess each item, you want to pull everything out of your closet and drawers. You want to assess each of them for fit, condition, relevance to your current lifestyle and if it aligns with your professional needs and your personal brand. If it doesn't fit any of it, toss it out. You also want to look at when's the last time you wore something. If they have price tags on them and you haven't worn them in six months, get rid of them or sell them. You want to create categories. When you're doing this and you're editing your wardrobe, you want to sort clothes into categories keep, tailor, donate or discard. Your keeps are the ones you want to keep. Tailor are the ones that you're going to keep, but you're going to send them to the tailor to help make, to make them the fit look better. Donate or discard. I will actually add another one on here called sell. So if you have items that are still in good condition but no longer reflect you anymore and your personal brand, you can always sell them on platforms such as Poshmark. If they're designer, you have things like the RealReal. You have Frank Fashion File I believe that's what the name of it is. That can help you with that. That will also help you Give you a little extra money to go buy the pieces that you do want to add to your wardrobe.

Speaker 1:

You want to build your core wardrobe this is the foundation of your wardrobe and I have what I like to call my pyramid, my style pyramid. It should be 70% core, it should be 15% capsule and 15% trendy's 100%. Yeah, this way you are able to have your foundation, which is your core, because all of that is going to go together. Then you have your capsule, which are, to me, your essential pieces that every closet and every wardrobe needs, and then trendy, for if you see pieces that are just like eye-popping catching, that reflect who you are but gives you a little flair, because you know trends are here today, gone tomorrow. But I will give you a piece of advice when you're dealing with trends, find something that could eventually, or has the opportunity to turn into, say, something that's going to have like longevity. This is when you get into the trendy pieces. I would say recommend doing this with, say, your blazers, maybe, or your accessories, because you're not going to necessarily wear those all of the time.

Speaker 1:

You want to invest in the basics. The basics, I believe they should go into your core portion of your wardrobe. So you want to invest in high quality from the foundation of your wardrobe. Tailored blazers, classic dress shirts, fitted trousers these are just examples, because you can wear these multiple ways and you're not having to go out and buy these items every year to two years. When you really invest in high quality clothing, you're going to only have to swap them out every maybe six, seven, eight years, of course, depending on your lifestyle and things of that nature. Of course, depending on your lifestyle and things of that nature, this is also a good time to start looking at other stores, to where, I think, where we get caught up. When we're investing in the basics and building out our wardrobe, we stick with the same stores and I think a lot of us have outgrown the stores that we've always shopped in. So I want you to always keep that in mind.

Speaker 1:

Regular maintenance, make a wardrobe editing a regular practice. Seasonally, you want to do this at least once, twice a year. I always do it between changing out my fall winter clothes for my spring summer and then bringing out. You know, then changing over from my spring summer and then bringing out, you know, then changing over from my spring summer to my winter fall. So you're looking at doing it at least twice a year. This way, you can be able to get rid of stuff and, of course, see what you need to add back to it. As you begin to do this, it will definitely become a little bit faster and a little bit easier for you to actually do, will definitely become a little bit faster and a little bit easier for you to actually do.

Speaker 1:

So in conclusion, and putting this all together, editing your wardrobe is not just about decluttering. It's a huge part of it, but not all of it. It's about making intentional choices that enhance your professional image and simplify your life, because I think we're on a point now to where we want to make our lives as simple and as easy as possible. So by streamlining decision making, ensuring consistent personal branding and boosting your confidence, you set yourself up for success in the corporate world. Whether you are entering the corporate world or whether you are a seasoned professional like me, it will make our success a lot easier and help us obtain it.
